Get Rid of Bloating

by Pete Taylor on July 3, 2010

If you want to get rid of bloating you have to understand the causes.

Abdominal bloating is caused by food that remains undigested in your intestines. It ferments and creates lots of excess gas, which blows your stomach up and makes you feel uncomfortable.

Here’s a great little video which explains in more detail. She recommends taking regular digestive enzymes which is something I too can strongly recommend. Digestive enzymes give your body a fighting chance to digest food properly, thus stopping bloating in its tracks.

Try taking regular digestive enzymes—I’m willing to bet you’ll get rid of bloating for good.

Large bloating belly

Yes, bloating really can expand your waistline to 3x its size!

If you’re looking for bloating relief, you’ve come to the right place!

While this site is chock full of advice on how to prevent bloating in the first place, sometimes all you need is instant bloating relief. I swear by peppermint oil capsules.

Peppermint is a simply wonderful natural herb. It’s been used for centuries to cure digestive ailments and it’s still as effective today, and with no side effects!

Take a peppermint oil capsule about half an hour before eating—this relaxes your colon which greatly reduces the chances of bloating. I sometimes take a capsule after eating if I’m feeling bloated too, it relieves my bloating within an hour.

You can also buy peppermint tea bags, which are marvellous too!

Abdominal Pain Bloating

by Pete Taylor on July 1, 2010

Woman with abdominal bloating and pain

Some days the abdominal pain, bloating and gas is unbearable

Do you want to know how to relieve abdominal pain, bloating and excess gas? A couple of years ago I embarked on a mission to do just that, after suffering from abdominal bloating for the best part of 18 years or more.

The fact is, bloating like this is caused by what you eat, how you eat, and your general eating habits. The trick to relieving the symptoms is getting to the root of what is causing the problem.

I discovered this free anti-bloating eating plan a couple of years ago which over the period of a couple of weeks basically put a stop to my bloating problems for good. The plan avoids combining certain foods together which our bodies find difficult to digest properly. It also steers clear of foods which many people are generally intolerant to. It’s really easy to follow and comes highly recommended.

Bloating Causes

by Pete Taylor on June 30, 2010

Suffering from bloating after eating can be a frustrating problem. If you are in the same boat as I was a couple of years ago, you’ll most likely be searching desperately for bloating causes. After all, if you know what causes your bloating symptoms, then you can figure out how to stop it in its tracks.

So what are the main bloating causes?

Bloating is caused by undigested food in your intestinal tract. As it lays there, your body is unable to digest it properly and so it begins to ferment. This fermentation process causes gas, and it’s this gas that bloats your stomach up like a balloon.

Lovely!

There are several reasons why food remains undigested like this. It can be caused by eating too quickly or not chewing food thoroughly enough. It can be caused by an intolerance to certain foods which your body struggles to break down. It can be caused by drinking too much alcohol, too much caffeine, too many fizzy drinks, eating too much sugar, not drinking enough water… the list goes on!

Browse my site for in-depth advice and help and tackle those bloating causes head on. Good luck and best wishes.

Bloating After Eating

by Pete Taylor on June 29, 2010

Bloating after eating is no fun. If you’re like I used to be, your stomach can blow up to a tremendous size for seemingly no reason. It also doesn’t seem to matter how much you’ve eaten, or particularly what you’ve eaten!

Stomach bloating is painful, uncomfortable and frustrating, no matter which way you look at it.

So how do you put a stop to bloating after eating? Can you ever eat without the worry of the terrible aftermath?

The good news is—yes you can! Here are 3 invaluable tips:

  1. Do you have a wheat intolerance? Try cutting out wheat-based products for a week. Many people find the wheat in gluten really hard to digest. Remember though, wheat is in many different foods, such as bread, crackers, biscuits and cakes. Personally, I’ve found that bread (especially white bread, but wholemeal bread too) causes the most bloating problems with me.
  2. Do you have an intolerance for dairy products? Lots of people struggle to digest a naturally occurring sugar in milk called lactose. Try cutting out milk, cheese and yoghurt for a week (tricky at first, I know!) and check if it makes a difference. I find that if I have a little dairy I’m not too bad, but a whole pizza’s worth of cheese and I look pregnant!
  3. Do you drink enough water? Most people don’t drink nearly enough water. Your body requires a regular intake of fresh water to digest food properly. A lack of enough water can be enough to cause bloating symptoms all on its own. Drink plenty of fresh drinking water all day, you’ll be amazed at the effect it has on your bloating.

Bloating Natural Remedies

Peppermint Tea

While prevention is always better than cure, I know what it feels like to need some instant relief when stomach bloating strikes. For the relief of bloating, natural remedies are the best way. Natural remedies usually don’t have any side effects and are cheap and easy to take.

My favorite natural bloating remedy is peppermint oil. You can take peppermint oil in tea. Simply buy peppermint tea bags, pop one in a cup and pour boiling water on it. Leave it to steep for about 5 minutes and drink.

You can also buy peppermint oil capsules. These wondrous inventions offer a higher concentration of peppermint oil and work more directly in the lower intestine where they’re most effective.

Try also drinking fennel tea. While not as easy to get hold of as peppermint tea, fennel tea also helps relax the colon, reducing the symptoms of bloating, constipation and IBS.

Your bloating might be caused by water retention. Dandelion root is a timeless classic for helping the body getting rid of excess water.

One of the best natural bloating remedies is in fact water! Drink lots of it regularly during the day. It’s essential for a healthy digestive system and will help flush out the waste and undigested food which is so often the cause of bloating.

Abdominal Bloating

by Pete Taylor on June 27, 2010

Abdominal bloating is a super common problem. This next video really doesn’t tell us anything new that you haven’t already read on my blog, but I like it because it’s nice and clear and easy to understand.

The usual tips apply, particularly my favorite: prevention is far more effective than cure. Enjoy the video:

  1. Try to eat high fiber food. Abdominal bloating is caused by food that has remained in your digestive system too long. It begins to ferment, which produces gas and thus bloats your stomach.

  2. Get plenty of exercise. Exercise in itself speeds up your entire metabolism, so if your digestive system is sluggish for whatever reason, a good jog or brisk walk can get things moving again. I often find that my abdominal bloating problems can disappear quickly by taking some exercise.

  3. Avoid foods known to cause bloating. There are lots of foods known to be culprits in causing stomach bloating that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Certainly avoid beans and dark green leafy vegetables like broccoli. Or if you struggle with bloating, try taking some digestive enzymes to help things along.

  4. Relax! Abdominal bloating is often caused by just being too stressed, so your digestive system doesn’t get the attention from your body that it needs and deserves. Take your time eating and drinking, and the symptoms will disappear.

Feeling Bloated

by Pete Taylor on June 26, 2010

If you are regularly finding yourself feeling bloated you have my every sympathy. I’ve suffered with it for years and have only recently really found ways to stop it happening and relieve the symptoms.

Do you know why you feel bloated so often? Typically it’s because your body isn’t able to digest the food you eat very well. Your food is digested as efficiently and as quickly as it might so it ferments, producing gas and wind that bloats your stomach up like a balloon. This fermentation makes you feel rotten, tired, listless as well as hammering your confidence in social occasions.

Here are some quick tips to get you started:

  1. Try cutting down on wheat-based products. I find bread is especially a culprit, with white bread the worst of all. Wheat contains high levels of gluten which our bodies find hard to digest. Replace wheat based cereals with oat, rice or corn-based ones. Try wheat bread alternatives like rye or barley bread. Eat oat cakes or rice cakes with salads.

  2. Try cutting down on dairy products. Dairy products like milk and cheese contain lactose, a naturally occurring sugar. Our bodies find lactose hard to digest, which can lead to feeling bloated.

  3. Find out about food combining. The type of food we eat at the same time as other each other can have a drastic effect on the digestive system. You might be unwittingly putting lots of pressure on your system which could be causing the problems.

If you’re often feeling bloated, give these 3 tips a try.
