Bloating Causes

Suffering from bloating after eating can be a frustrating problem. If you are in the same boat as I was a couple of years ago, you’ll most likely be searching desperately for bloating causes. After all, if you know what causes your bloating symptoms, then you can figure out how to stop it in its tracks.

So what are the main bloating causes?

Bloating is caused by undigested food in your intestinal tract. As it lays there, your body is unable to digest it properly and so it begins to ferment. This fermentation process causes gas, and it’s this gas that bloats your stomach up like a balloon.

There are several reasons why food remains undigested like this (there’s a fuller list of ideas here). It can be caused by eating too quickly or not chewing food thoroughly enough. It can be caused by an intolerance to certain foods which your body struggles to break down. It can be caused by drinking too much alcohol, too much caffeine, too many fizzy drinks, eating too much sugar, not drinking enough water… the list goes on!
