peppermint

Having a bloated stomach is one of the most unpleasant symptoms I can think of. It strikes without warning, makes you feel fat and uncomfortable and brings with it a whole host of side-effects like gas and wind that certainly won’t make you popular at parties and social gatherings!

Thankfully, relief for bloated stomach symptoms is easy to come by. My favorite way is by taking peppermint, either in the form of tea or in capsules.

Always feeling full and bloated? If you’re looking for ways to relieve and prevent the symptoms you’ve come to the right place!

I suffered from constant stomach bloating after eating (and sometimes without having eaten anything!) I discovered that bloating is usually caused by undigested food remaining in your digestive system. This starts to ferment, which causes gas to build up, which leads to the uncomfortable symptoms of bloating. Urgh.

So do you want to know how you can banish the bloating (at least most of the time)!

woman-pms-bloating

Here’s a super-quick Q&A for a question I’m asked quite a bit by readers via email: what are the typical causes of bloating in women?

If you’re a woman and you feel bloated around the time of your period, the cause of this bloating is usually due to the symptoms of PMS (or premenstrual syndrome, sometimes known as PMT too).

The reasons are complex, but here’s the quick answer:

During the 2 weeks or so before your period, your hormone levels rise much higher than usual. This high concentration of hormones has 2 side-effects when it comes to causing stomach bloating:

  • Slower digestive system – food, waste products and gas move more slowly through your system, leading to a build of stools and gas that blows your stomach up like a balloon.
  • Water retention – your body retains more water, which also adds to the appearance of bloating.

The good news is it’s pretty easy to remedy, or at least to relive the symptoms. Rather than go into all the details here, head over to find out my easy PMS bloating remedies. I hope these tips get you some relief. :)

food-groups

You may know that stomach bloating is most often caused by undigested food. For whole heap of possible reasons, your body doesn’t digest certain types of food.

These then sit in your gut, fermenting away. This causes the gas which pumps your stomach up like a balloon and makes you feel all icky.

One of the reasons food doesn’t easily digest is because we eat the wrong kinds of foods together at the same time.

Regular readers will know I keep repeating the mantra: you must find out the causes of your bloating before having a hope of being able to relieve the symptoms.

With stomach bloating, prevention is most definitely better than cure. Knowing what food or habits set off your own symptoms, and avoiding them, is the best way to relieve your bloated belly.

Having said that, sometimes you just need instant relief. I know, I know!

So, if you’re really suffering, here are some simple exercises I often try. They’re easy to do, aren’t in the least bit strenuous, and never fail to relieve my bloating.
