PMS (or premenstrual syndrome) can often lead to a feeling of abdominal bloating in the 2 weeks or so before the onset of your period. While us men don’t have to go through this, you women have my every sympathy!
Luckily, there are many easy PMS bloating remedies and preventative measures that will give you relief from the symptoms. Here are my 6 best PMS bloating remedies and prevention tips to help thwart the Mother Nature’s evil plans…
1. Eat lots of fiber-rich wholefoods
There’s no denying it—nature is cruel! There are 2 main reasons PMS tends to leave you feeling unusually bloated…
The first one is that the high hormone levels make stools and gas move more slowly through your intestinal tract, causing the food to ferment and create excessive gas. Bleurgh!
The good news is: making sure you eat plenty of fresh, fiber-rich wholefoods and fruit will encourage your digestive system to keep things moving, avoiding the bloating.
2. Drink lots of fresh water.
The 2nd reason you feel bloated around the time of your period: progesterone levels are very high, which causes water retention.
While there’s no easy way of reducing these high hormone levels, drinking lots of fresh water helps flush waste product through your system. Drinking more water actually encourages your body not to retain water—true! So make sure you get plenty of the fresh good stuff down you
3. Take plenty of exercise.
Physical activity not only helps food pass through your digestive system, but it also boosts your circulation, which reverses some of the effects of the high hormone levels you experience.
4. Cut down on salt, sugar, caffeine and alcohol.
Eat more fresh, wholesome foods. These will encourage your digestive system to work more efficiently.
5. Try some natural supplements.
Some supplements are excellent PMS bloating remedies, such as vitamin E, calcium and magnesium. Also consider dandelion root—this old favorite is a natural diuretic, and will rid your body of some of the excess water that contributes to bloating.
6. Try drinking peppermint tea.
While peppermint is a natural supplement like the examples I’ve just given, it’s so wonderful for relieving bloating that it deserves a mention all of its own!
This wonderful herb relaxes the colon and really boosts the health of your digestive system. You can also get peppermint capsules too, which I highly recommend.
Please help spread the word and hit 1 of these buttons. Thanks!
