How to Reduce Your Swollen Stomach By Food Combining

You may know that stomach bloating is most often caused by undigested food. For whole heap of possible reasons, your body doesn’t digest certain types of food.

These then sit in your gut, fermenting away. This causes the gas which pumps your stomach up like a balloon and makes you feel all icky.

One of the reasons food doesn’t easily digest is because we eat the wrong kinds of foods together at the same time.

Why would that be a problem?

Well, put simply, different kinds of food require different digestive secretions. Protein, for example, require different enzymes to break them down than those required for carbohydrates.

Therefore, eating protein and carbs together means your digestive system is fighting against itself to digest food properly. This results in undigested food sitting in your intestine, which starts to ferment, which creates gas, which causes the bloat!

So what can you do?

Firstly, I strongly recommend grabbing this amazing free report on food combining to reduce bloating. It goes into far, far greater depth than I do here.

Now: think of the food you eat as being part of one of 4 distinct groups:

Group 1: Protein

This includes foods such as cheese, eggs, dairy, fish, meat, nuts, etc.

Group 2: Carbohydrates

This includes foods such as grains, biscuits, bread, pastry, starchy vegetables such as potatoes, etc.

Group 3: Non-starchy vegetables and fats

This includes things like butter, cream, oils, salads and seeds.

Group 4: Fruit

All kinds of fruit comes under Group 4.

What are the rules of food combining?

The rules themselves are pretty easy actually!

Here are foods you CAN eat together:

  • Groups 1 & 3
  • Groups 2 & 3
  • Group 4 (on its own)

Here are foods you MUST NOT eat together:

  • Groups 1 & 2
  • Groups 1 & 4
  • Groups 2 & 4
  • Groups 3 & 4

Looks pretty tricky huh? Well, it certainly does take a bit of getting used to, that’s for sure.

Grab the free report I mentioned earlier. It gives lots more practical advice and help, including actual meal ideas and recipes.

I have no doubt that if you give proper food combining a try, you won’t be disappointed. Have you tried food combining before? I’d love to know how you got on, and if it helped relieve your bloating. Please let me know in the comments below! :)

Please help spread the word and hit 1 of these buttons. Thanks!

Hi,
I was reading about your food combinations. You spoke about groups 1,2, and 3. And it statesnot to eat some groups with group 4…but you didn’t mention what group 4 is. I am thinking it’s probably fruits and non-starchy veggies….but I just wanted to be sure.
I have IBS and the pain and bloat is ridiculous. I am starting the 4-day pain free diet today…but would like to monitor my food combinations after that. Thanks for your help.

Hi Michelle – oh my! I had no idea I’d missed out group 4! You’re right, group 4 is basically fruit of all kinds.

I’ve amended the post now. Thanks so much for letting me know, I feel quite embarrassed to have missed it!

Please let me know how you get on with the diet, I know exactly what it’s like to have that kind of pain and bloat too.
